Brazos Talent Initiative Steering Committee holds meeting Thursday to discuss future of Brazos County workforce, economic development
RESEARCH VALLEY, TX – The Brazos Talent Initiative Steering Committee facilitated by the Research Valley Partnership, a public-private economic development corporation serving the citizens of Brazos County, held it’s first meeting today following an announcement by Blinn and TEEX of a memorandum of understanding to partner in workforce training.
The Steering Committee is positive about this announcement between TEEX and Blinn College and views this as a step forward in reaching the goals laid out at the beginning of the committee’s formation.
“The Committee looks forward to seeing results from this MOU that will bring more facilities and technical training capabilities to Brazos County, to create a more comprehensive college option for Brazos County students” said Ivan Olson, Co-Chair of the Steering Committee. “While coordinating with our local representatives at A&M and Blinn to maximize the value of this agreement, the committee continues to seek better alignment between our business community, economic development and technical training needs.”
Over the last several months the Steering Committee received feedback from Bryan-College Station and Brazos County parents and students, Brazos County industry sector partners, academic faculty, Bryan-College Station and Brazos County governments. These groups emphasized a strong community desire for direct engagement and increased awareness of community college program development.
In addition to community input, the committee will continue to engage its academic partners in discussions around the following areas: workforce and technical training, academic excellence, facilities and affordability. As a cooperative example of facilitating solutions in Brazos County, TEEX, Blinn and TAMUS joined the Partnership’s Manufacturing Council meeting earlier this week.
“Excellence in all identified areas are necessary to meeting the objectives of the Steering Committee,” Olson said. “To meet the needs of our future growth, we will continue to work for the best interest of Brazos County residents.”
